Seagull Nebula (IC 2177)

By BRUNO ROTA SARGI

The IC 2177 Nebula, known as the Seagull Nebula, is an emission region located on the border between the constellations Monoceros and Canis Major, about 3,800 light-years from Earth. Its shape resembles a seagull in flight, with the "head" represented by the reflection nebula NGC 2327 and the "wings" formed by clouds of gas and dust. Rich in ionized hydrogen, it is an active area of star formation.
