LDN 1147
By Edmondo Giuliano
It is a dark nebula located 800 light years away, in the constellation Cassiopeia. With careful observation, we can see faint filaments of gas and dust, a sign that star formation phenomena could be taking place inside it. Unlike emission nebulae, which shine thanks to the energy of nearby stars, dark nebulae are composed of material so dense that it blocks light.
