Mars, three weeks after opposition

The dark parts of Mars constantly change shape over time, mainly due to the movement of dust during sandstorms that uncover and cover darker surfaces. The Earth manages to make almost two complete orbits around the sun when Mars only makes one, so the opposition of Mars occurs every 26 months.
