LBN 1089 + SH2 130

By N-Kuadra Astrophotography

The Dark Nebula LDN 1089 is located in the constellation Cepheus. This nebula is one of the many dark nebulae cataloged in the LDN (Lynds' Dark Nebulae) catalog created by the American astronomer Beverly T. Lynds in 1962. LDN 1089 is characterized by its dark and opaque appearance, which is due to the dense concentration of interstellar dust that blocks the light from stars and other background nebulae. In the foreground, we prominently see its main star, Theta Cephei. In the image, various filamentous structures and dense clouds that are part of this nebula can be appreciated. The constellation Cepheus, where LDN 1089 is located, is visible from the northern hemisphere and is rich in interesting astronomical objects, making this region of the sky a fascinating area for astronomical observation and study.
