Omega Nebula

By RODRIGO DIAS DE CARVALHO

It is a prominent star-forming region in the constellation Sagittarius. Located approximately 5,000 to 6,000 light-years from Earth, it spans about 15 light-years. Characterized by its bright ionized hydrogen gas, it displays a distinctive pink-red hue in optical images. This coloration results from the intense ultraviolet radiation emitted by young, hot stars within the nebula, which ionizes the surrounding gas. The structure of the nebula includes dense clouds of gas and dust, dark filaments, and bright emission regions, creating intricate and beautiful patterns.
